We invest our own capital into anything which can make money and make the world a better place. The founder has a background in derivatives and proprietary trading in investment banks. As soon as we discover any good opportunities in the markets, we are willing to take risks. Our expertise is equity long-short, event-driven strategies and certain types of arbitrage trading. We sometimes simply bet on a direction of an asset. Unlike traders who are employed by banks or institutional investors, we can wait and do nothing for years if no good opportunities are there. Making no money by doing nothing is far better than losing money by doing something we are not confident in. Nonetheless, we usually encounter a few very good opportunities every year. The market is a place where once-in-100-year events happen quite often.
We also make investments in startup companies. The Web and App businesses in Japan have been our focus, but we would like to expand our investment universe to FinTech and EdTech fields, initially focusing on entrepreneurs around Hong Kong.
